DON’T

• Drive on roads that you and your parents feel comfortable.

• Do not drive on dangerous roads or in situations that you think will be too challenging.

• Follow the rules of the road.
• Use the keys of the Smith System.

• Do not perform illegal maneuvers. Use common sense.

• Use hand over hand steering.

• Do not use hand under hand
• Do not slide the wheel to turn
• Do not use the push pull method
• Do not use the truck driver method

• Practice and use hand over hand on the way back, after making the turn.

• Do not slide the wheel back.

• "Exaggerate" a little bit, when making left turns. Go farther out into the intersection and then make the left turn.

• Do not short cut the left turns.
• Do not drive over or touch the center line.
• Do not cut the imaginary center line

• Finish left turns in the closest lane. Finishing in the far lane is illegal.

• Do not cheat and finish in the far lane when making a left turn; unless it is a double turning lane.

• Finish right turns in the right lane. Finishing in the far lane is illegal.

• Do not cheat and finish in the far lane when making a right turn; unless it is a double turning lane.

• Take your time when making turns, when approaching the intersection.
• Brake before you turn. ( Brake going into the turn )
• Accelerate after the turn. ( Gas coming out of the turn )

• Same tip applies when going into sharp curves !

• Do not take the turns too quickly or abruptly.
• Do not give it gas going into the turn.
• Do not brake during or after the turn.

( Continuous braking is bad for the brakes, shocks, struts & alignment !!! )

• Use the turn signals when making lane changes and turns.

• Do not forget to apply the signal.

• Apply the turn signals before turning into parking stalls.

• Do not forget to apply the signal when turning into a parking stall.

• Use the turn signals when turning into a driveway.

• Do not forget to use the turn signal when turning into a driveway.

• Use the turn signals when backing into parking stalls.

• Do not forget to use the turn signal when backing into a parking stall.

• Use the turn signals when backing into or out of a driveway.

• Wait to make a lane change if not comfortable or in a dangerous situation.

• Do not make lane changes in uncomfortable situations.
• Do not make lane changes 100 feet before, during or after intersections. Don’t challenge other drivers !

• Drive with large space cushions !!
• Keep extra large gaps between your vehicle & the car in front of you !!

• Do not follow too closely.
